2008 Ride Season

For some reason lately I have been thinking about what rides I would like to do for next year.

For me as of late it seems that I need to commit to some stuff to have a goal to train for during the off-season and keep the weight coming off. Plus I need to get it on the calendar so that I don’t let life get in the way of it. It seems to be without making the commitment “public” to your friends and family it is just to easy to let it slip away. For me if it is on the calendar it reminds you to keep up the hard work to meet your goal. Plus it allows you to schedule away any possible conflicts.

I am torn on what to do for next year. I have always wanted to do a double century. I have done the century and a double seems like the next thing to try. By doing some of the Brevets in the area I could certainly achieve that goal with an organized ride. Plus they start fairly early in the year allowing you to stay motivated during the winter. Then you do it in the Spring and have time to train and prep for a second fall event of some kind.

However the idea of a hundred mile mountain bike race has been creeping into my mind as of late as well. This has the attraction of getting away for awhile and doing some camping in the great outdoors. Not to mention you could use the road training over the winter to get you ready for a summer or fall “dirty century”

Another idea that I have been tossing around is that of a triathlon. They intrigue me for sure. I think this may be something that I hold off on for at least another year or so. The swim and the bike don’t get to me but a the run makes me wonder.

I wonder when others start to set their riding plans for the year?

I think by setting goals before the “eating season” I mean the holiday season, it sure would go a long way to help me stay focused and not eat to much of all the great food that always seems to be easily available this time of year.

I’ll let you know when I make up my mind.

What are your riding goals for 2008?

About Ernest

Ernest is the owner of the Crofton Bike Doctor located in the Village of Waugh Chapel Shopping Center. Ernest has been in the industry since 1989 when he first started to work at the Bike Doctor of Arnold. During that time I developed a love for cycling and retail. I graduated from the University of Maryland and live and ride locally. I enjoy riding off road and on the road as well as doing a little bike touring. As a teenager I did a trip in Maine and then over to Novia Scotia which helped cement my love for riding. Since then I have done tours in the Canyons of Utah as well as several trips along the C&O Canal. Today I have both mountain bikes and road bikes that I enjoy riding. One of the most exciting things now is my wife is beginning to develop a passion for riding and we have begun mountain bike together as well as some light road riding.
