Pearl Izumi Gel-Vent Pro Gloves

I never leave for a ride without a pair of cycling gloves. I think it is important to protect your hands in the case of a fall. Gloves are a cheap insurance policy. Nothing is worse then picking gravel out of your hand after a crash. With the variety of sizing available everyone should own at least a pair of gloves. Gloves should be the first piece of clothing purchased, even before a pair of cycling shorts. While shorts are a key piece of clothing the safety and comfort offered by gloves shouldn’t be overlooked!

For the last year or so I have been riding with Pearl Izumi Gel-Vent Pro Gloves. These gloves are available in both a short finger version and a long finger version. I own both, the short finger version that I use for most of my road riding while I mountain bike with the long finger version in addition to using them for moderately cool road rides.

2008 Ride Season

For some reason lately I have been thinking about what rides I would like to do for next year.

For me as of late it seems that I need to commit to some stuff to have a goal to train for during the off-season and keep the weight coming off. Plus I need to get it on the calendar so that I don’t let life get in the way of it. It seems to be without making the commitment “public” to your friends and family it is just to easy to let it slip away. For me if it is on the calendar it reminds you to keep up the hard work to meet your goal. Plus it allows you to schedule away any possible conflicts.

Thanksgiving Traditions

I love the holiday season. Being with friends and family is so important to me. One of my favorite things to do on Thanksgiving is a road ride with my friends. We have been doing it for years. So tomorrow the tradition will continue with a bonus of better then average weather. I am excited to get out with everyone.

I will ride with a heavy heart tomorrow. As I am sure my thoughts will be about my late Uncle Richard who we lost suddenly a few days ago. He was one of the first people that I rode any regular distances with. I have many great memories of camping and riding the C&O Canal with my Uncle’s and Cousins. Not to mention the countless rides at the beach with him and my Aunt Judy.

Riding has so many great memories for me. It is such a great time to catch up with friends and family while getting a work out and seeing the country side all at the same time. I hope you have a ride soon that will become one of your lasting memories in a positive way.

Here is wishing you a happy Thanksgiving that hopefully includes a ride.

Garmin GPS

I had my riding buddy and friend Dan borrow a Garmin from me. He has written a review of it which follows.

Hands on Review: Garmin 305By Daniel Sprietzer, Editor Dailyspinnews.com

Recently I was fortunate enough to have been given a Garmin Edge 305 to review by the Crofton Bike Doctor, and I have to say that I was ecstatic over the opportunity to test it out.  For the last few years, I have tested/ridden with everything from Polar’s to Powertap’s, but this was the first chance I had to test out a cycling GPS unit.

Comments

Hello everyone.

I was reviewing and cleaning out the spam for the comments that had been made to a few of my posts. I needed to take a break and I deferred moderating them so I could come back to them. The software seemed to make them disappear so that I can’t moderate them. So if you posted something and don’t see it I apologize. I am working with the company to see where they went.

I hope everyone has been enjoying the longer than normal “summer” out on the bike. Amanda and I have both been riding a fair amount.

For me this is the best time of year for riding.

See you on the road!
