Just built this up yesterday. Can’t wait for the weather to break to get out on her. For more photos check out My Gallery.
Shocker, a new study came out that says leaner nations bike, walk, use mass transit. Thus leaning to nations with less obesity. Is anyone shocked by this new finding? I sure am not. Seems to be pretty straight forward if you ask me. We have seen Americans get out of their cars and onto bikes and mass transit a little more after the gas price increase. The questions is now, did they do that long enough for it to become a habit for them or will the cold weather and lower gas prices drive them back into their cars? Time will tell. This Thanksgiving the tradition of the pre feast ride continued. This year was special in the fact that my long time friend Dave rediscovered his bike and came to ride. Even better he brought his 14 year old son with him, this was to be Alex’s first real ride on a real road bike. Prior to this he has always ridden kid’s bikes. Myself, Dan, Dave, Alex and Jon all headed out for our ride. It was not three miles into the ride Alex learned that once you ride off the edge of the pavement don’t ride back up the pavement because it won’t end well. It ended with Alex taking a tumble onto the pavement. Other than a little raspberry on his face he was no worse for the wear. It happened a block or so from his house, Alex latter said “I’ll have to drive by that spot everyday as a reminder.”
The exciting thing is Alex finished the ride and now wants a road bike to ride on a regular basis. So maybe another road biker has been created. It is also a great way that he and his Dad can spend some time together. Hopefully they will get some riding in next year and invite Mom and the little sister along.
Unless you love riding in the bad weather almost everyone at one time or another is going to find themselves riding an indoor trainer. When the weather is at its worst many will turn to an indoor trainer to get in a much needed work out.
There are several types of trainers. There are wind trainers that rely on wind to create riding resistance, mag trainers which rely on magnetic resistance, fluid trainers which rely on fluid and electronic trainers. There are also rollers which have different methods of resistance. Trainer technology has come a long way in the last few years and we could spend a long time discussing all of the different trainers available on the market today.
One of my personal favorites is the CycleOps Fluid2 by Saris. CycleOps offers a full range of indoor training products and new for 2009 is a new Pro series line of trainers. Their trainers are assembled right here in the USA in Madison, Wisconsin. The Fluid2 is not new to the line it has been a mainstay of the CycleOps trainer line for years and along the way has received minor upgrades.
